Where did Ramses go?

World premiere, Doc Leipzig Festival – Germany 2019

The director, Amr Bayoumi, fondly recalls documenting the journey of the statue of Ramses II in 2006 using his personal camera. This monumental journey took the statue from Ramses Square, one of Cairo’s largest squares, to its new location at the grand Egyptian Museum. It was a massive transfer process, unprecedented in Cairo’s streets, lasting over 12 hours amidst the enchanting atmosphere of the city.

Inspired by this extraordinary journey, Amr aims to weave a narrative that explores the complex relationship between authority and the people. Additionally, he reflects on his personal connection with his father, who represented a symbol of supreme authority during his youth.
